Tragic Loss: Nigerian Army Commander Brigadier-General Uba Killed by ISWAP

A devastating blow has struck the Nigerian military as Brigadier-General M Uba, a senior commander, was killed by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists. The incident occurred along the Damboa-Biu axis in Borno State, after ISWAP intercepted and tracked Uba’s location.

The Ambush

Uba’s convoy was ambushed by ISWAP fighters while returning from a patrol near Wajiroko village in northeastern Borno State. The attack left four military personnel dead, including two soldiers and two members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).

Investigation and Aftermath

Despite initial denials by the Nigerian Army, multiple sources confirmed Uba’s capture and execution. ISWAP claimed responsibility for the ambush and execution, stating that Uba was interrogated before being killed. The Nigerian military has appointed Brigadier-General Mustapha to oversee the 26 Task Force Brigade in Damboa.

Reactions and Implications

The killing of Brigadier-General Uba marks a significant escalation in Nigeria’s 16-year insurgency struggle. The incident highlights concerns over security lapses and the need for reinforced security measures in the region.
