Trump Should Allow Public Input On Who Should Run US Treasury – Musk

Published on

There has been intense lobbying for important jobs both behind and occasionally in public as US President-elect; Donald Trump makes several decisions regarding the composition of his future administration’s Cabinet.

The billionaire and important Trump supporter; Elon Musk is now advocating for more direct public participation in the decision-making process for at least one high-level position, the Treasury Department chief.

“It would be interesting to hear more people weigh in on this for @realDonaldTrump to consider feedback,” Mr. Musk wrote on Saturday on his social media platform, X.

Mr. Trump has previously appointed Musk to co-lead a group charged with improving government spending efficiency.

Then, using the remainder of his post, Mr. Musk became the first person to vote in the public survey he was suggesting on the Treasury Department chief. Before Inauguration Day on January 20, he supported Howard Lutnick, the CEO of Cantor Fitzgerald, a financial services company, over hedge fund manager Scott Bessent. Lutnick was also a co-chair of Mr. Trump’s transition team.

“Bessent is a business-as-usual choice, whereas @howardlutnick will enact change,” Mr. Musk stated in his post.

“We need change because business as usual is driving America bankrupt,” he stated.

During Mr. Trump’s second term, both Mr. Lutnick and Mr. Bessent were floated as potential candidates to head the Treasury. In recent days, the president-elect has already made several announcements, including the selection of Florida Senator Marco Rubio as Secretary of State and attorney general, former Florida Representative Matt Gaetz.

However, he still needs to fill other crucial positions, such as Treasury and the heads of the Education and Labor Departments, and other top candidates have been vying for Mr. Trump’s favor. Mr. Bessent is thought to be the more traditional, business-oriented option. While Mr. Lutnick has proposed that people could use cryptocurrencies to pay their taxes, he is skeptical of the idea.

Musk’s post was made as Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson was in Palm Beach, Florida, this weekend at Mr. Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort, where he was scheduled to meet the president-elect later on Saturday. Following that, Mr. Trump is scheduled to attend the UFC heavyweight championship bout between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic at Madison Square Garden in New York on Saturday night.

Since his election-day victory, Mr. Trump has been spending his time at Mar-a-Lago, which has held galas and parties all week long, except for a day trip to Washington this week to meet with President Joe Biden for about two hours and give a separate speech to House Republicans.

Returning to Madison Square Garden would entail going back to the venue where a comedian last month made a big splash at a Trump rally by comparing Puerto Rico to a “floating island of garbage.” Nevertheless, Mr. Trump still enjoys traveling to New York, where he spent many years.

Additionally, Mr. Trump has been close to Dana White, the president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, for almost twenty years. At the Trump Taj Mahal, a former casino hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Mr. White held a UFC fight in 2001. Since then, Mr. Trump has regularly gone to UFC events, including his 2024 campaign.

Recently, Mr. Trump has attended battles with well-known groups, such as former Fox News Channel host Tucker Carlson, artist Kid Rock, and Mr. White. During his first time in office, Mr. Trump and Mr. White appeared in a UFC video in which the president was referred to as the “combatant in chief.”

Over the past almost ten years, Mr. Trump has tightened his hold on the national Republican Party, while Mr. White’s political prominence has skyrocketed.

Mr. White gave speeches at the Republican conventions in 2020 and 2016, as well as during the party’s July gathering in Milwaukee. In the early hours of the morning following Election Day, he also spoke to the audience at Mr. Trump’s victory party in Florida. Mr. White then stated, “This is what happens when the machine comes after you.” It appears from what you’ve witnessed over the past few years that he was unable to be stopped. He continues. He never gives up.

Gentle Reminder: Be careful how you use your authority and influence, be wise, and treat others with respect.
