Twitter, an American communications company, has declared its intention to begin charging nearly $20 per month for its verification badge.
Less than 48 hours have passed since Elon Musk assumed control of Twitter.
According to reports, the new Twitter owner will launch a premium service that includes a monthly subscription in order for users to keep their verified status.
Musk, in a tweet on Sunday, said, “The whole verification process is being revamped right now.”
Twitter Blue, an optional $4.99-per-month premium subscription, will also be increased to $19.99 per month. The price, however, is said to be subject to change.
Following the launch of Twitter Blue, existing verified users will have 90 days to subscribe or their blue checkmarks will be removed.
According to an American technology news website, Musk directed engineers to complete a paid verification system by next week or face getting sacked.
The Tesla and Space X owner was named the new CEO of the social media platform on Friday, October 28.
