CONTEMPLATING ON THE DEMANDS OF DISCIPLESHIP

Love is fundamental to our readings today and integral to our lives as followers of Jesus. In the first reading, Paul emphasizes that love encompasses the fulfillment of all laws and commandments. When we operate from a foundation of love, we find it easier to adhere to the commandments and to develop a closer relationship with both God and our neighbors.

The Gospel passage features Jesus speaking in parables and explicitly outlining the demands of discipleship. Each of us is called to be a disciple of Christ; however, this calling requires specific commitments. It involves placing Christ at the very center of our lives and prioritizing Him above all other relationships, including family. Becoming a disciple is a significant undertaking that warrants careful consideration. Nevertheless, if we accept this call, the reward will be profoundly meaningful. If Jesus were to invite you today to forsake everything and follow Him, what would be the most challenging aspect to relinquish?

May God purify our hearts, and may our attachments not hinder our pursuit of Him. Amen. Wishing you a productive midweek surrounded by grace.
