Psalm 44(45):11-12,14-17
Luke 6:20-26

The peculiar beatitudes, along with the corresponding enigmatic woes for those satiated, currently joyful, and in pursuit of honor, prompt reflection. Luke portrays a stark contrast between the kingdom of God and the earthly realm, emphasizing the profound reversal that the kingdom of God entails throughout his Gospel.

Luke intended to reassure his community, affirming that despite their trials, their allegiance lies not with the earthly kingdom, but with the kingdom of God. Luke’s portrayal does not seek to romanticize poverty; instead, it underscores the importance of mutual care, solace, and communal sharing within the kingdom of God. Consequently, Luke consistently emphasizes in his Gospel the values of generosity and compassion over destitution.

If we align ourselves therefore with the kingdom of God as our utmost priority, all other necessities will be provided.
