WHO Chief And UN Team Almost Hit By Israeli Strikes That K!lled Six In Yemen

An assault on Yemen’s capital Sanaa’s capital airport and the western city of Hodeidah on Thursday, December 26, killed at least six people and injured dozens more as a “high-level UN delegation,” led by World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, was scheduled to fly out, according to a spokesperson for UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

“The Secretary-General is gravely concerned about intensified escalation in Yemen and Israel,” the statement added.

A missile fired from Yemen was “intercepted before crossing into Israeli territory,” according to Israel’s military, hours after the Iran-backed Houthi terrorist from Yemen pledged to strike again. According to Israel’s emergency service, no injuries were recorded.

At least three persons were killed and thirty injured in the attack on Sanaa International Airport, according to al-Masirah television, which is controlled by the Houthis. When the airport was bombarded, Tedros, the head of WHO, stated he and a UN delegation were ready to board a plane.

“As we were about to board our flight from Sanaa… the airport came under aerial bombardment. One of our plane’s crew members was injured,” Tedros said in a statement, adding that he and his team are safe.

“The air traffic control tower, the departure lounge — just a few meters from where we were — and the runway were damaged. We will need to wait for the damage to the airport to be repaired before we can leave.”

The UN statement said the delegation “had just concluded discussions on the humanitarian situation in Yemen and the release of UN and other detained personnel.”

The strike on Hodeidah, located farther west of Sanaa, killed at least three persons and injured ten more, according to al-Masirah. The Houthis said the strikes targeted the ports of Hodeidah and Ras Issa, as well as the Ras Kutub power station in Hodeidah governorate.

The strikes injured at least 40 people in total, according to the Houthis, who called the attack “a brutal aggression” and pledged vengeance.

In a Hebrew-language post on X, Hezam al-Asad, a member of the militant group’s political council, warned Israel, stating that “Gush Dan is no longer safe.”

Tel Aviv is part of the Gush Dan metropolitan area in central Israel. The Israeli military claimed to have struck “military targets” that belonged to the Houthis on Thursday.

“The targets that were struck by the IDF include military infrastructure used by the Houthi terrorist regime for its military activities in both the Sanaa International Airport and the Hezyaz and Ras Kanatib power stations,” the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement.

The IDF also claimed to have targeted “military infrastructure” at the western coast ports of Hodeidah, Salif, and Ras Kanatib.

The Houthis control a major portion of Yemen’s land, including Sanaa.

They, together with Hamas and Hezbollah, are part of an Iran-led alliance that has targeted Israel and its supporters since the start of Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza, which has killed over 45,300 Palestinians.

Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister of Israel, declared that the war on Yemen would continue “until the mission is complete.” “We will persist in severing the terror arm of Iran’s axis of evil until the mission is complete,” he vowed Thursday while speaking from Israel’s Air Force Command Center.
