Why Being Incarcerated Makes Me Feel Honored – Tems

Tems, a musician, producer, and composer, reflected on her experience in a Ugandan jail in 2020 and called it a “blessing in disguise.”

Recall that Tems and Omah Lay were taken into custody and accused with violating COVID-19 standards by Ugandan police.

On December 12, 2020, the pair had separate performances at a concert held at Speke Resort in Kampala. Tems and Omah Lay were jailed after their arrest made news, but they were freed a few days later, all thanks to the intervention of the Nigerian government.

The “Damage” crooner said she was honored to have gone to prison since it humbled her in an interview with ES Magazine.

According to the 28-year-old singer, she would not have known what prisoners were going through if she had not gone through the same herself.

Tems said; “Prison was once in a lifetime experience that I actually feel honoured to have had because otherwise, I would never have thought about these people, and to be in their presence was very humbling”.

It is always good to honor yourself with humility, and give yourself the esteem you deserve.

Today's Quote

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
