According to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, if President Bola Tinubu had decided to use all of the federal government’s power, he could have guaranteed an All Progressives Congress (APC) victory in the most recent Osun State governorship election.
Wike, who is still a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), claimed that Tinubu purposefully did not interfere with the election.
Speaking on Tuesday while inspecting flood-prone areas in Maitama, Abuja, Wike stated that he would have backed the president if he had chosen to use federal power to win the APC.
“If the president had wanted to win the Osun state election at all costs, I would have been there and we would have won it, and there’s nothing the governor can do,” Wike said.
“There was no federal might used in Osun. When you see the force and might of the federal government, you will know.”
“Ordinarily, Adeleke would have been with APC if things had worked out well.”
“The 2027 elections will be the easiest one for the President compared to 2023.”
“This time around, the opposition has been crippled, homeless, no feather.”
Regardless of Wike’s actions or claims, the reality remains unchanged: the winner will emerge whether he supports it or not. It is clear to all that his current stance seems to favor APC, even as he tries to distance himself from PDP. If he truly stands with APC, he should openly face them and show his allegiance rather than hiding behind ambiguous statements. Ultimately, the outcome will be determined by the voters and the political realities on the ground, not by Wike’s maneuvers.
