Woman Arrested For Allegedly Beating Stepdaughter To Death

In a deeply unsettling turn of events, the Enugu State Government has confirmed the arrest of Mrs. Ogechi John, accused of beating her nine-year-old stepdaughter, Miss Ogechi Amanda John, to a tragic death.

Authorities report that Mrs. John was apprehended on Monday morning at their home in the Nchatancha area of Emene, Enugu metropolis. The horrific incident reportedly unfolded around 3 p.m. on Sunday, drawing shock and sorrow from neighbors who claimed the little girl had endured ongoing mistreatment at the hands of her stepmother.

Mrs. Ngozi Enih, the Enugu State Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development, voiced her deep concern over the matter, vowing that the government would ensure a thorough prosecution of the suspect. “We will not rest until justice is served,” she emphasized, reiterating the state administration’s firm stance against child abuse and homicide under the leadership of Governor Peter Mbah.

In her statement, Enih called for a swift and comprehensive investigation into the tragedy, underscoring a powerful message: “No one has the right to take another person’s life, especially that of a child. We unequivocally condemn this act.” The community and authorities alike are rallying for justice, hoping to prevent such heart-wrenching incidents in the future.
