A Magistrate Court sitting in Injiwaji, Damaturu, has sentenced 22-year-old Rabilu Sani to 12 years’ imprisonment for defiling a four-year-old girl in Jakusko Local Government Area of Yobe State. The presiding judge of Magistrate Court 1 held that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and convicted Sani without the option of a fine.
The incident occurred last year when Sani lured the minor into a room and assaulted her. He was arrested on November 9, 2025, and charged to court after investigation. The case sparked widespread public concern in Jakusko, including speculation that the convict was HIV positive. However, the court confirmed that medical tests showed Rabilu Sani is not infected with HIV.
The Yobe State Government played a central role in pursuing the case to conclusion. Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Ya Jalo Badama, led efforts to secure justice for the victim through months of legal proceedings. Government officials monitored the trial and provided support throughout the process.
During judgment, the court emphasized that medical reports, witness testimonies, and other evidence established the offence. After sentencing, government representatives reiterated their commitment to protecting children’s rights and ensuring perpetrators of sexual violence face the law. Residents were urged to promptly report abuse to authorities for swift intervention.
