Zambian Minister Steps Down After Trending Video Shows Him Accepting Cash Bribes

Published on

Stanley Kakubo, the foreign minister of Zambia, resigned when it was said that he was seen on camera accepting cash bribes from Chinese contractors.

The minister had pledged to Chinese businessmen in the 2022 now trending video to sell rich mineral mines. However, it appears that he did not fulfill the agreement before the video went viral.

According to the Lusaka Times, the minister stated he quit because he didn’t want his controversy to distract President Hakainde Hichilema’s administration.

But Mr. Kakubo promised, “We will provide the accurate context surrounding the recent developments in due course.”

Promptly accepting his resignation, the president expressed gratitude for his remarkable efforts and his leadership as a minister.

In the widely shared video, two guys are seen counting the carefully arranged cash—both US dollars and Zambian kwacha—while seated beside a table. Although their faces are hidden, social media users speculated wildly that the guys were Mr. Kakubo and a Chinese businessman.
