A 75-year-old barber, Nwankwo Nweke, has been arrested for defiling an 8-year-old girl in the state capital of Anambra State.
The suspect, who is from Isi Agu in the Awka South local government area of the state, confessed to the crime, claiming that “temptation that made him have carnal knowledge of the girl.”
The suspect begged for mercy and promised to behave well if the state government pardoned him.
The victim’s parents, Mr John and Mrs Ogochukwu Ugwuanyi, explained that they sent their child to a nearby shop around 7 o’clock at night to pick up something. When she returned, they noticed the items weren’t complete and asked her to return to the shop. This is how they started looking for the 8-year-old girl.
The parents claimed that after hurriedly going to the shop to search for her, they were unable to find her and became concerned about her abrupt disappearance from the neighbourhood.
They had no idea that the 75-year-old barber had already brought her to his home and instructed her not to respond to her name.
They disclosed that when the suspect, who was their neighbour at the time, thought the search was finished, he shoved the 8-year-old out of his room.
Mr. and Mrs. Ugwuanyi stated that they asked their daughter what occurred when she eventually returned that night, in order to find out what had happened between her and the suspect.
She explained to them how the suspect had enticed her to his home by promising to give her a mango.
They mentioned that before bringing their child to the hospital, they had enlisted the help of security personnel at that point.
