A Man Criticizes Toyin Abraham For Using Yoruba To Promote Her Movie

Toyin Abraham, a well-known Nollywood actress and director, has come under fire from an internet user for marketing her movies in Yoruba.

Toyin while promoting her movie, wrote in Yoruba: “IYALODE nbo ninu osu kefa, oojo kefa odun ti awa ninu e yi. Mo ni kin tun ranyin leti ni o Aese Modupe Malaika si wa Lori circuits.tv lowo lowo bayi, ejo eba mi wo, mi o nise mi o yato si ere ori itage.”

Translating into English, she wrote: “IYALODE is coming in the sixth month, on the sixth day of this year. I just wanted to remind you all. Also, thank you so much! Malaika is currently available on Circuits.tv. Please check it out for me. Acting is my only job; I do nothing else besides stage performance.”

The user, Oriretan Honour in reaction expressed his disappointment that Toyin Abraham was prioritizing Yoruba culture over her Edo heritage.

He argued that marrying a Yoruba man does not justify leaving her roots and urged her to promote “EdoWood” instead of “Yorubawood.”

He wrote, “Toyin, it’s unwise claiming Yoruba that u’re originally not instead of Edo. More unwise only promoting Yoruba culture leaving Edo’s.Ur mum &dad are Edos but sad nobody knows this abt u.Marrying Yoruba isnt enough reason.U’ve 48hrs to dump Yorubawood &start promoting EdoWood.Bé wise.”

Toyin Abraham responded to the criticism in Yoruba, saying that Oriretan Honour is very unfortunate, she prayed for God to give him peace.

She wrote, “Ori e ti buru bi eegun ti nle weere, amo Adura mi ni wipe ki Eledumare fun e alaafia.” Translating into English, “Your head is as bad as a masquerade chasing a mad person, but my prayer is that God grants you peace.”
