A Refugee From Ukraine Wins €500,000 In The Belgian Lotto

Congratulations are pouring in for a Ukrainian refugee who won the lottery. The Belgian national lottery said today that a war refugee from Ukraine who used a scratch card to win €500,000 (RM2.5 million) had done so.

The man’s wager has been multiplied one hundred thousand times after purchasing the scratch-off ticket for €5 at a gas station last month.

The winner, who will remain anonymous as are all winners of Belgian lotteries, is between the ages of 18 and 24 and has resided in Brussels for the previous 12 months.

“He feels conflicted (about winning).” In reference to Russia’s destructive invasion of Ukraine, National Lottery spokesperson Joke Vermoere said, “It is a difficult time to be happy with everything occurring in his home country.

According to Vermoere, the winner initially plans to hold a party to thank everyone who has assisted him in integrating into Belgian society, after which he wants to use the money to help his fellow countrymen and the restoration of Ukraine.

She added that although the man is content and employed in Belgium, he wishes to return to Ukraine as soon as the war is over.

In Belgium, winning the lotto is tax-free.

165 residents of a small Belgian community won €142,897,164 last year.
