I am pleased to announce that the Abia State Government has successfully concluded negotiations to acquire 60% of the EEDC assets within the state, following the acceptance of our offer by Interstate Electrics. This landmark agreement ushers in the next phase of a transformative transaction that will enable the Abia State Government to take charge of power generation, regulation, and distribution across the eight ring-fenced local government areas in Abia Central and North senatorial zones.
This milestone aligns perfectly with Governor Alex Otti’s vision to strengthen the power sector as a key driver of economic growth and sustainable development in Abia.
In the same vein, the State Executive Council has approved the restoration of electricity to Ohafia after several years in darkness — a development that will greatly enhance the activities of the Greater Ohafia Development Authority.
Additionally, the State Government has awarded contracts for the construction of five major roads across the state. On Friday, 24th October, two of these roads — the 25km Umuahia–Ikot Ekpene Road and the 13.1km Ariam–Usaka Ring Road in Ikwuano LGA — will be officially flagged off. Others include the 9.35km Ihechiowa–Arochukwu Ring Road, the 4.9km Isieketa–Mba Itungwa–Mgbedeala Road in Isiala Ngwa South, and the 3.72km Ogidi–Umuala Eziama Ntigha Road in Isiala Ngwa North. These projects are part of the ongoing infrastructural revolution designed to open up rural communities for business and economic expansion.
Furthermore, Abia State will join the rest of the world on October 15th to commemorate this year’s World Food Day at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia. The event, themed “Hand in Hand for Better Food and a Better Future,” underscores the importance of collaboration in building sustainable and resilient food systems. I encourage all stakeholders in the agricultural sector to work together to end hunger, improve nutrition, and secure our collective future.
This administration remains resolute in its mission to deliver reliable power, durable infrastructure, and sustainable development for all Abians.
