The Adamawa State council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has strongly denounced the beating and abuse of one of its female members, Nafeesa Vandi.

On Wednesday, August 17, 2022, Mallam Ibrahim Aliyu, a dismissed employee of PHCN, allegedly battered his wife, a mother of three and an employee of the News Department of Adamawa Broadcasting Corporation Yola.

In a statement released on Wednesday in response to the event and signed by Ishaka Donald Dedan, the head of NUJ, Adamawa State chapter, the union called the assault of a practising professional female journalist “unacceptable, wickedness, and barbaric.”

According to the statement, “Though the police has already swung into action in investigating and arresting the perpetrator of the domestic violence, the NUJ calls for a more speedy action towards the immediate arrest and prosecution of the said Mallam Ibrahim Aliyu according to the law and constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“The union further calls on national and international organizations like FIDA, UNFPA, UNICEF as well as Civil Society Organizations that are propagating a total halt on violence against women to step on the matter for justice to prevail.”

Today's Quote

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
