Al-Nassr ‘Want To Make Van Dijk The Highest-Paid Defender

Al-Nassr, a Saudi club, is reportedly interested in signing Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk and intends to make the Dutchman the world’s highest paid defender.

The 32-year-old Dutch centre-back has established himself as one of the top defenders in Premier League history since joining the Reds from Southampton in 2018.

Virgil, whose contract at £220,000 per week expires next summer, admitted earlier this year that he ‘doesn’t know’ what the future holds for him.

According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Al-Nassr has already held conversations about a summer transfer, with the general director meeting with Van Dijk’s agents on Tuesday.

He also presented a contract offer that ‘would make the Dutchman the highest-paid defender in the world’.

Al-Nassr and Cristiano Ronaldo are trying to enhance the squad after placing second in the Saudi Pro League for the second consecutive season.

If Van Dijk decides to transfer to Saudi Arabia, he will play alongside Aymeric Laporte in the back.

Van Dijk has yet to be offered a new contract and discussed the situation after Liverpool’s final game of the season.

Van Dijk added: “My future is not important at the moment. The only thing I can say now is if I have a farewell I don’t think I would keep it dry (and not cry) because that was something I was very surprised with him (Klopp).

“These fans are something else and eventually when they say goodbye to you then it will be special.

“Even with Joel, I said, ‘How did you manage to keep it dry, pal?’. He just wanted to walk through it quickly and stand with us so I think he did that pretty well.

“At the moment there is nothing for me to say. Nothing has changed and nothing is on the table either. No changes in my situation at all.”

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.

“A lot of companies have chosen to downsize, and maybe that was the right thing for them. We chose a different path. Our belief was that if we kept putting great products in front of customers, they would continue to open their wallets.”
