Angelina Jolie Reacts After Saudi Arabia Banned The Movie ‘Eternals’

American actress; Angelina Jolie has reacted to  the decision of Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia, to ban the movie “Eternals”, after it was scheduled to be shown next Thursday.

The country said that a “homosexual relationship” in the movie was behind the reason for the ban.

The Hollywood Reporter Cinema screens in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar will not show the film.

The superhero movie Eternals was due to be shown in the Gulf states on November 11, but was met with a series of local censorship requests in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar to allow adjustments that Walt Disney Entertainment Studios, which distributes the film, were not willing to make, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The site says that cinemas in those countries have removed the dates that were scheduled to show the movie “The Eternals” from their sites. While the screens in the Emirates are still confirming its presentation soon.

Jolie, who stars in the film as eternal warrior ‘Thena’, responded to the ban during a talk show, She said: “I am sad for these (the audience). I am proud of Marvel (the production company) for refusing to delete these scenes.”

American art sites reported that cinemas in the Arab Gulf countries, with the exception of the UAE, will not screen the movie “Eternals”, which was scheduled to be released next Thursday.

The Hollywood Reporter’s sources say the decision was likely made due to scenes involving gay heroes. Homosexuality has always been illegal in all Arab Gulf states.

Angelina added, “I still don’t understand how we live in today’s world, while there are (people) who don’t see the beauty in that (homosexual) relationship and that love.”

The Eternals is directed by Chloe Chow, and stars Richard Madden, Gemma Chan, Camille Nanjiani, Salma Hayek, Ma Dong Suk, Barry Keoghan, Angelina Jolie and Kit Harington.

According to the Deadline website, it was reported that the movie (Eternals), produced by Marvel Entertainment, scored 7.6 million dollars on its first day of release. But the foreign box office, which is expected to enjoy a strong turnout, will exclude showrooms in Bahrain and the Sultanate of Oman as well.

According to Deadline, cinemas in these countries or Disney studios did not say why the film was banned, but censors in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Oman were seeking to remove more intimate scenes, which Disney did not agree to and therefore distribution certificates were not issued.

The Hollywood Reporter says movie theaters in these countries have previously banned many films that contain anything related to LGBT issues.

And last year, cinemas in Kut, Oman and Saudi Arabia banned Pixar Studios’ Onward movie because of a sentence referring to a same-sex relationship.
