HRH Dele Omosehin, the Traditional Prime Minister (Lisa) of Osooro Kingdom, has outlined his motivations for entering the political arena. In his statements, he elaborated on the reasons that inspired him to pursue a role in politics and how he aims to contribute to the community and the kingdom’s development through his involvement.
“Politics, to me, is not a career choice, nor is it a platform for personal ambition. It is a solemn responsibility, a call to serve, and a vehicle through which meaningful change can be achieved for the good of our people. My decision to be actively involved in politics is driven by conviction, compassion, and an unshakable belief in the collective prosperity of our land.
“I come from Iju-Odo in Okitipupa Local Government, a community where resilience, dignity, and hard work define the people. Growing up, I witnessed firsthand the challenges our people face—limited access to opportunities, declining infrastructure, and a reward system that often discourages loyalty and service. These realities shaped my outlook and ignited a burning desire to be part of the solution.
“Through my journey in business, philanthropy, and community development, I have been blessed to contribute in my little way to the empowerment of women, the development of youths, and the upliftment of the vulnerable through initiatives such as the Bamidele Omosehin Foundation (BOF) and the Dele Omosehin Development Initiative (DODI). But over time, it became clear to me that philanthropy alone is not enough. The structural problems of our society require political will, policy intervention, and leadership that prioritizes the people above self.
“That is why I am in politics;
“I believe politics should be about service, not entitlement; responsibility, not exploitation. I see politics as the most powerful instrument to transform lives, create opportunities, and strengthen our democracy. It offers the platform to build a society where hard work is rewarded, loyalty is valued, and leadership is both responsible and accountable.
“For me, politics is not about titles or positions; it is about people and progress. It is about giving voice to the voiceless, ensuring fairness in representation, and championing development that reaches every ward, every community, and every individual. It is about mobilizing our people toward unity, peace, and prosperity under the umbrella of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the party we are working to make truly the party for all.
“As I take this journey, I do so with humility, guided by faith, and anchored in the values of integrity, compassion, and excellence. My aspiration is simple: to see a constituency, a state, and a nation where every Nigerian has the opportunity to thrive.
“This is why I am in politics. Not for self, but for service. Not for today alone, but for generations to come.
