Appeal Court Sacks MC Oluomo As NURTW President

The Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, has pronounced Alhaji Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa the legally recognized President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

The Court also approved the National Industrial Court’s March 11, 2024 decision in Suit No. NICN/ABJ/263/2023, which declared Baruwa president of the NURTW.

Tajudeen Baruwa spoke out against Musiliu Akinsanya, also known as MC Oluomo, becoming the union’s new President during a press briefing on Friday, November 15.

In addition to being ridiculous, Baruwa claimed that MC Oluomo’s inauguration was an insult to the judiciary because it went against the rulings of the National Industrial Court and the Court of Appeal from March 11 and November 8, which prohibited the Yasin-led faction from meddling in the union’s operations and the day-to-day management of the Baruwa-led National Executives of NURTW.

According to him, NURTW was established by law and has a recognized constitution that outlines the procedures for holding elections for public office.

In the interest of peace, order, and serenity as well as the rule of law, he urged the Attorney General of the Federation and the Inspector General of Police to step in and guarantee the implementation of the Appeal Court’s ruling.

The court concurred with Baruwa and dismissed the appeal brought by Alh. Najeem Usman Yasin, Alh. Tajudeen Agbede, and others disputing the Industrial Court’s decision to accept Baruwa as President.

As a result, the three-member Justices panel, which included Hamma Akawu Barka, Nnamdi Dimgba, and Asmau Ojuolape Akanbi, certified Baruwa to be the union’s legally elected president.

The appellate court further granted N100,000 to the Respondents over the Appellants, who are MC Oluomo followers.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
