After a fiercely contested 90 minutes that resulted in a stalemate, the game moved to penalties.
Alejandro Garnacho, a teenage player for United, took the lead in the 82nd minute and was later equalized by Bernado Silva.
With misses from Jonny Evans, Jadon Sancho, and Bernado Silva, Man City prevailed 7–6 in the shootout.
