CBN Reveals New Naira Note Authentic Features As Fake Naira Circulates

The Central Bank of Nigeria has made public the security features of the newly issued N1,000 note, N500 note, and N200 note.

According to CBN, there are 23 security features on the N1,000 note, 15 security features on the N500 note, and 10 security features on the N200 note.

Touch, visibility, the security thread, and the watermark are a few security characteristics that the CBN is hoping will make it simple to spot fraudulent notes. On the front and back of the notes, there are further embossed details including the portrait, text, and denominational digits.

A fake naira will have a smooth texture and a dull appearance, which means that when doing a transaction, one should pay attention to how the banknote feels.

Additionally, the gold foil on the right side, next to the CBN governor’s signature, has to be examined.

Applying a liquid to the note can help one tell the difference between a genuine and fake naira note because counterfeit money is easily able to alter the colour.

To determine whether a note is real or not, you can also look at and touch the ribbon-like thread that runs through all Naira notes.

When the naira note is placed on a mercury bulb, one can see other things, numerous aspects of the local currency that are unseen to the naked eye.

Also, the Naira notes are shielded from photocopying. Additionally, there are features that can only be seen under ultraviolet light. For instance, the serial number on each banknote is normally black but changes to green when exposed to ultraviolet light.

According to the apex bank, users should watch out for intaglio raised print, portrait watermark, officially variable ink that changes from blue to green with a change in angle of view, kinegram with the image of N1,000 and Coat of Arms, iridescent band, windowed metallic security thread, and see-through printing in register on N1000 notes.

The security features on the N500 notes include a hand-engraved portrait, a windowed metallic security thread with the CBN inscription, the CBN 500 watermark, a portrait watermark, officially variable ink that changes from blue to green depending on the angle of view, a silver patch with an embossed coat of arms, see-through printing in the register, and raised intaglio print.

The N200 notes are equipped with a number of security features, including a hand-engraved portrait, a windowed metallic security thread with the CBN inscription, the CBN 200 watermark, a portrait watermark, officially variable ink that changes from blue to green depending on the viewer’s angle of view, a gold patch with an embossed coat of arms, see-through printing in register, and raised intaglio print.

Today's Quote

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
