Chidinma Adetshina crowned Miss Universe Nigeria 2024

Ms Chidinma Onwe Adetshina has been voted on Miss Universe Nigeria 2024, just weeks after having to withdraw from the Miss South Africa competition.

The 23-year-old defeated 24 other contenders to win the prestigious crown at the pageant, which was held today, August 31, at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos state.

Chidinma Adetshina was invited to the event after withdrawing from the Miss South Africa pageant due to strong controversy over questions about her nationality.

Chidinma Adetshina , who was raised in Soweto and was born to a Nigerian father and a Mozambican mother, endured a barrage of vitriol from some South Africans who said she wasn’t eligible to compete in the pageant since her father wasn’t from that country.

After receiving a request from the organizers of Miss South Africa and hearing from many South Africans, Ms. Adetshina’s citizenship was investigated by Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber of South Africa. The identity of a “innocent” South African mother “may have been stolen” by Adetshina’s mother, according to SA Home Affairs, which conducted an investigation into Chidinma’s ancestry.

Chidinma decided to drop out of the competition as a result.

Today's Quote

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
