China Executes Kindergarten Teacher Who Poisoned 25 Students

With hands in back

According to state media, a former kindergarten teacher who poisoned 24 children’s porridge with sodium nitrite four years ago and killed one child this week was executed in central China.

The Jiaozuo City Intermediate People’s Court in Jiaozuo, Henan Province, first delivered the punishment in September 2020. Wang Yun, 39, attempted to appeal it but was unsuccessful.

According to a court statement, Wang was given the death penalty on Thursday after the same court confirmed her identity, brought her to the execution site, and carried out the sentence. After getting into an argument with another teacher in March 2019, Wang bought some sodium nitrite.

According to state media, the court determined that she had included some of the chemical compounds in the children’s “eight treasures porridge” the following morning at the kindergarten.

In China, a sweet-flavored rice-based porridge known as “eight treasures porridge” is highly well-liked.

One of the kids passed away in January 2020 from poisoning-related organ failure in several organs. Twelve more people were treated for minor wounds, according to state media.

Wang’s death and other high-profile incidents of violence or death in Chinese kindergartens over the past few years are numerous.

In China’s Guangdong province, a 25-year-old man is suspected of attacking a kindergarten on Monday, murdering six people and wounding one. This crime sparked widespread outrage over violence against children in schools.

Amnesty International, a human rights NGO, believes that China executes thousands of people every year, significantly more than any other nation.
