The Nigeria Police Force has rejected a ₦500 million bribe offer, arrested the suspect behind it, and seized a massive consignment of “Canadian Loud” cannabis valued at ₦7.8 billion. The operation marks one of the largest drug interdictions recorded this year.
Officers made the seizure during a targeted stop-and-search operation along a major highway. Upon discovering the concealed consignment, the suspect allegedly offered the officers ₦500 million to allow the truck to proceed. The police team refused and immediately placed the suspect under arrest.
“Canadian Loud” refers to a high-grade strain of cannabis smuggled into the country, often concealed in vehicles or cargo. Authorities said the haul was packaged in large sacks and hidden beneath legitimate goods, indicating a sophisticated trafficking network.
The Force Public Relations Officer praised the officers for their integrity, saying the rejection of the bribe reflects ongoing efforts to rebuild public trust. He added that the suspect is cooperating with investigators and more arrests are likely as the trail is followed.
The seized narcotics have been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for further analysis and destruction, in line with procedure. The ₦7.8 billion valuation was based on street price estimates for the grade and quantity recovered.
Police leadership vowed to continue aggressive patrols and intelligence-driven operations against drug traffickers. They also urged citizens to report suspicious activity, stressing that public cooperation remains key to dismantling organized crime rings.
