As of 6:41 p.m. on Saturday, the Independent National Electoral Commission had posted 2,048 results out of 2,445 polling places on its Result Viewing Portal, accounting for 83.7% of the total results from the Ekiti State governorship election.
Compared to the 35.5 percent uploaded just 30 minutes earlier at 6:12 p.m., the figure shows a notable increase.
The current governor, Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is running for a second term before his first term ends in October. There are fourteen candidates running in the off-cycle governorship election.
His principal challengers include Oluwole Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party, Oluwadare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress, Oyebanji Olajuyin of the Labour Party, and Blessing Abegunde of the New Nigeria Peoples Party.
Other contenders are Samuel Akande (AAC), Ayodeji Ojo (ADP), Opeyemi Felegan (Accord), Joseph Anifowose (APM), Bidemi Awogbemi (APP), Olaniyi Ayodele (PRP) and Victor Adetunji (ZLP).
Results are still being transmitted to the portal as collation continues across the state.
