Former Chief Press Secretary to the immediate past Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, and seasoned legal practitioner, Sir Onyebuchi Ememanka, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a letter dated May 6, 2025, addressed to the Chairman of the PDP in Amasato Ward 3, Osisioma Ngwa LGA, Ememanka stated that his resignation takes immediate effect, bringing to an end a long-standing relationship with the party under which he rose to prominence. In the letter, he expressed gratitude to the party for the platform it provided him and the cooperation he enjoyed while serving the people.
Expanding on the reasons for his decision in a personal statement titled “GOODBYE, PDP!”, Ememanka described the move as “painful but inevitable.” He revealed that the resignation came after deep personal reflection and consultations with his family.
Following the PDP’s defeat in the 2023 general elections, Ememanka said he had expected a restructuring process within the party that never came. “Rather, what I saw was a deliberate and consistent exodus of key members of the party into other parties,” he lamented. He criticized the continued defection of long-time PDP beneficiaries and described the situation as a large-scale “human resources hemorrhage” that defied explanation.
“I asked myself a question… Am I Jesus Christ? Who bears the sins of the whole world? I answered that question in Olokoro Umuahia tongue… ODUGHU PLEASE!” he wrote, highlighting his disillusionment with the state of affairs within the PDP.
Although he confirmed he has not yet joined another political party, Ememanka hinted at being impressed by the political strategy of the current Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu is still consulting widely before making his next move.
He also expressed deep appreciation to his former principal, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, whom he praised as a man of peace and vision, noting that his relationship with the former governor goes beyond politics.
“To my friends in the PDP, especially those with whom we fought the media wars, I must salute your tenacity and courage. I wish you all the best,” he said in his parting message.
With this resignation, Sir Ememanka joins the growing list of notable figures who have left the PDP in recent times, further deepening the challenges confronting the party both in Abia State and across Nigeria.
