I Don’t Care How Much I’m Making, 10% Is For God – Odion Ighalo

Former Super Eagles player Odion Ighalo has disclosed the reasons behind his unwavering commitment to tithing, explaining that he initially found it challenging to part with his tithe when he began earning substantial sums as a footballer.

Ighalo states that he has consistently adhered to the practice of tithing since his early days at Julius Berger. Yet, he nearly wavered when his earnings soared to unimaginable heights after transferring to China.

The ex-Manchester United athlete shared these insights during a conversation with Super Falcons player Rasheedat Ajibade on her Rash4Christ Podcast.

“My first salary I got when I was playing back in Julius Berger was in 2005. I was 16 years old then. 15,000 naira. And I know my pastor back then taught me about tithing,” Ighalo remarked.

I began tithing in 2005, and up to this day, I have never skipped my tithe.

“Devil wanted to play with me when I went to China and I’m earning big money and I saw 10% of my tithe. Devil was playing with my mind. I thought about it. Month end, I got my salary, I did not send money yet.

“The former Watford star explained that he ultimately triumphed over this internal conflict after seeking divine guidance, with God instructing him to remain steadfast in the principles that had consistently guided him.

“But I prayed one day, God said don’t change the winning formula. If you can be faithful with little, you’ll be faithful with any amount,” Ighalo continued.

“Like I am now, I don’t care any amount I’m going to earn in life today, 10% is for God.”

Ighalo also emphasizes that he remains unfazed by others’ opinions, as his actions are rooted in his faith in God’s word.

“I know some people will say you are giving it to the pastor. It’s not my problem. I do according to the word of God,” he added.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
