I Never Backed Emergency Rule In Rivers — Wike

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has refuted claims of endorsing President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of emergency rule in Rivers State.

Wike, who previously served as Rivers State governor, made this statement during a media interaction with journalists in Abuja on Monday, June 2.

He further clarified that he has no personal dispute with Governor Siminalayi Fubara, despite the rising political tensions.

Wike stated, “I am not the President who declared a State of Emergency. If Mr. President had called me, I wouldn’t have agreed. I have never supported it.”

Regarding his relationship with Governor Fubara, Wike remarked, “I do not have any crisis with him. Rather, the governor, unknown to me, gave himself to be the tool for those who could not fight me, to fight me.”

Wike explained that the emergency rule was a protective measure for Fubara amid threats of impeachment.

“The declaration was to save the governor because he was almost impeached,” he said.

When questioned about resolving the crisis in Rivers State, Wike deferred to the President’s authority, saying: “He, Tinubu, knows when to lift it, he has everything on his table. I don’t know.”

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.

Today's Quote

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
