Labourers Together With God

Jesus moves among the towns and villages, teaching, proclaiming the Gospel of the Kingdom, curing disease and illness.  He gives us life in abundance and love that never fails.

Everyone of us is precious in the eyes of the Lord. A shepherd would not lose one sheep neither would a mother lose her child. Christ’s public ministry was a ministry of compassion and kindness for humanity.

To underscore just how personally involved Jesus was in this ministry, Matthew writes that Jesus’ “…heart was moved with pity for the crowds because they were troubled and abandoned, like sheep without a shepherd.”  The troubled, the abandoned, the lonely, the wanderers…Jesus had come into the world as God’s gift to such people — people like us centuries later.

Yes because we are like sheep among wolves. The wolves have invaded the territory. Those who oppose God will be punished. Their sins will lead them to doom. As Hosea puts it in today’s first reading, if you sow the wind,
they shall reap the whirlwind;
The stalk of grain that forms no ear
can yield no flour.

To grow in our Christian life, we must trust in the Lord the kind and good shepherd and share our faith with others…families, coworkers, neighbours, May we make Jesus’ clarion call our own:  the Kingdom is at hand!  May we be faith-moved to greater care for our sisters and brothers, especially those in special need.Amen.

Shalom
