In honor of the start of the Islamic New Year, Hijrah 1448AH, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has proclaimed Tuesday, June 16, 2026, a day free from work throughout the state.
Along with congratulating Muslims in Oyo State and throughout Nigeria on the start of the new Islamic calendar year, the governor prayed for God’s continued favor and the chance to celebrate many more years of health and prosperity.
On behalf of the governor, Professor Musibau Babatunde, the Secretary to the State Government, signed a memo containing the declaration.
Governor Makinde asked Muslim Ummah members to use the occasion to pray for Oyo State’s and Nigeria’s overall peace, unity, and development.
He emphasized the value of introspection and group dedication to societal advancement, pointing out that the Islamic New Year offers a chance for a fresh commitment to harmonious cohabitation and national development.
Additionally, the governor urged the state’s citizens to exercise caution prior to, during, and following the festivities.
He urged people to notify security services or the state’s emergency response number, 615, of any suspicious movements or activities as soon as possible.
Makinde wished Muslims a fulfilling and tranquil Hijrah celebration while reiterating his administration’s dedication to upholding security and peace throughout the state.
A pivotal moment in Islamic history, the Hijrah calendar commemorates the Prophet Muhammad’s (SAW) journey from Makkah to Madinah, signifying faith, selflessness, and tenacity.
Wishing everyone a joyful and prosperous Islamic New Year. May this new year bring peace, happiness, and success to all. Happy New Year!
