Motherhood: Mom-Teenage Daughter Conversations That Matter (17)

Helping Your Daughter Discover Her Purpose (C)

Purpose is more than choosing a career path—it’s about knowing who she is and why she was created. Ephesians 2:10 reminds us, “For we are God’s masterpiece, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Her purpose isn’t a someday thing—it’s already woven into who she is, right now. So, you have to nurture her sense of purpose.

You can nurture her sense of purpose by

  1. Asking her the Right Questions
Go beyond “What do you want to be?” Ask her, “What makes you come alive?” “What breaks your heart?” “What problems would you love to solve?” These questions help her tune into what truly matters to her.
  2. Celebrating the Process, Not Just the Results
Whether she’s sketching in her room or leading a small group at church, celebrate her efforts. Help her see that purpose isn’t a single moment—it’s a journey, step by step.
  3. Speaking Life Over Her Dreams
Even if her dreams seem unrealistic, speak faith—not fear. Say to her, ‘God placed something unique in you,’ and gently remind her, ‘You don’t have to have it all figured out right now. Just keep walking with Him and stay open to learning, and He will gradually unfold His purpose for you”

Your daughter doesn’t have to wait until adulthood to live with purpose. It starts now—with every conversation, every small decision, and every affirmation you give. When she understands that her value doesn’t come from performance or popularity, but from her identity in Christ, she’ll begin to walk in confidence and clarity.

So keep asking the right questions. Keep celebrating the small things. Keep speaking life. Because with your guidance, she’ll learn not just to chase dreams—but to live with purpose.

How do you encourage her dreams, even the uncertain ones? Kindly share.

Bye!
