Motherhood: Mom-Teenage Son Conversations that Matter(2)

Bring Out the Leader in Him

One day, our sons will be husbands, fathers—leaders of their homes, their communities, and their workplaces. It may seem far off, but the truth is, leadership doesn’t just begin in one day. It’s built slowly—little by little, day by day—and it starts now.

And guess who plays a key role in shaping that? You and me.

We can’t leave it to culture, chance, or wishful thinking. If we don’t teach them what godly leadership looks like, the world will hand them a counterfeit—one built on pride, control, and shallow strength. The kind of “leadership” that pushes others down instead of lifting them up.

It is our responsibility to teach them that God’s design for leadership is different. It’s rooted in humility, service, love, truth, and responsibility.

So let’s start with the little things. When your son takes initiative, tells the truth, shows kindness to someone weaker, or admits a mistake—pause and say, “That’s leadership.” He may not know it, but those are the moments building his foundation.

Let him know: real leaders don’t use their strength to dominate—they use it to protect. They don’t shout to be heard—they live in a way that earns trust and respect. They lead not for applause, but from a deep sense of purpose and calling.

And remind him often—one day, he’ll lead a family. That’s no small thing. The way he treats others today, how he serves, takes responsibility, and walks with God, is all preparing him for that sacred role.

Let him know that he won’t always get it right. That’s okay. Mistakes are part of growth. But we guide, encourage, and cover him in prayer—because God has a purpose for his leadership.

Remind him of Genesis 18: 19—“For I have chosen him so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just.”

How have you been using small moments of your son’s life to shape his leadership? Kindly share.

Bye

“A lot of companies have chosen to downsize, and maybe that was the right thing for them. We chose a different path. Our belief was that if we kept putting great products in front of customers, they would continue to open their wallets.”
