The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has sealed facilities belonging to Inner Galaxy Steel across the country over alleged involvement in the vandalism and recycling of railway infrastructure and other critical national assets.
The Corps said the operation followed weeks of intelligence gathering and joint raids with security agencies. Investigators linked the company to the purchase and processing of stolen railway materials, including tracks, clips, and fittings removed from active and dormant rail lines.
NSCDC Commandant General Ahmed Abubakar Audi ordered the immediate closure of all Inner Galaxy Steel plants and warehouses nationwide. He described the act as economic sabotage that undermines federal investments in rail transportation and endangers public safety.
According to the NSCDC, the vandalized materials were melted down and recast into steel products for commercial sale. Officials said this illegal recycling chain fuels further attacks on rail assets, leading to service disruptions and huge losses for the government.
The Corps has arrested several suspects connected to the supply chain and vowed to prosecute them in accordance with the law. It also warned scrap dealers and steel companies to verify the source of materials or risk similar sanctions.
Inner Galaxy Steel is a major player in Nigeria’s steel industry. The NSCDC said the sealing is not a ban on operations but a measure to prevent further receipt of stolen infrastructure while investigations continue.
The Corps reiterated its mandate to protect critical national assets and urged citizens to report suspicious movement of railway materials. It added that more clampdowns on vandals and their collaborators will follow as part of efforts to safeguard Nigeria’s infrastructure.
