The celebration of Christmas reminds us of God’s grace and the birth of Jesus Christ is the beginning of a new covenant of God’s mercy, said Yemi Osinbajo, Vice President SAN.
Professor Osinbajo said so today when a journalist contacted him for an interview after Christmas services at his chapel in Aso villa, Abuja. The vice president delivered a sermon at a hybrid service attended by his wife Dolapo Osinbajo and government officials. both online and in person.
The vice president, who is also a pastor, told a state legislative correspondent that his message to Nigeria was “a Christmas message, a birth of a new covenant, a birth of grace. Today we celebrate God’s grace and mercy. “
Continuing, Prof Osinbajo stated that “the birth of Jesus Christ is the birth of the grace of God. From the moment Christ was born, God said He wasn’t going to hold us to account for sin so long as we believed in what He did – the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
“Before we had to pay for our sins and we had to bear the consequence of sin. We would always continue to sin, but with the coming of the Lord Jesus, He has come to replace us and substitute all our unrighteousness and replace it with His own righteousness, as long as we believe in him.”
Earlier in his sermon during the Church service, Prof. Osinbajo noted the difference between the old covenant which was based on performance and fulfilling of the law of sin and death and the new covenant which is based on the grace of God through the death of Jesus.
“God knew the old covenant didn’t work and then introduced the new covenant in the form of Jesus who came to fulfil the law.” The Vice President added that “what is required for the new covenant is that we believe in Jesus.”
The Christmas Service, an annual event at the Aso Villa Chapel, featured a bible study session moderated by the Chaplain, Pastor Joseph Oluseyi Malomo, celebration, singing and dancing.
“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
