Man On Trial In Albania Sh00ts Judge De@d In Court

A man standing trial unleashed gunfire inside a courtroom in Tirana, Albania’s capital, on Monday, October 6, resulting in the death of the judge and injuries to two others, according to police reports.

Appeals Court Judge Astrit Kalaja was overseeing the man’s case when the defendant abruptly pulled out a firearm and began shooting. Authorities stated that the shooter was quickly apprehended at the scene before he could escape.

“The judge was rushed to the hospital, but succumbed to his injuries on the way,” a police statement said. The other parties involved in the trial, a father and son, were also shot and transported to the hospital, where they were reported to be in stable condition.

Local media reports indicate that the case stemmed from a prolonged property dispute. Witnesses noted that the shooter seemed visibly distressed during the hearing and reportedly opened fire upon realizing the judgment was likely to be unfavorable to him.

The courtroom erupted into pandemonium as attendees scrambled for cover, with law enforcement officers rushing in to restrain the gunman. Emergency services arrived shortly after, transferring the wounded to nearby medical facilities.

Authorities have initiated an investigation to uncover how the assailant managed to smuggle a firearm into the courtroom, which is intended to be a secure environment. Police indicated that the motive appeared personal and tied to the property case before the court.

The shocking event has triggered widespread anger in Albania, prompting legal and political leaders to demand enhanced security measures in courtrooms nationwide. The Albanian Justice Ministry issued a brief statement declaring that it “strongly condemns the heinous attack” and offered condolences to Judge Kalaja’s family, describing his death as “a tragic loss to the nation’s judicial system.”

Local media have reported that the suspect, whose identity has not yet been publicly disclosed, was a party to the civil dispute and faced multiple legal challenges related to property ownership. The Albanian Bar Association has also urged an immediate review of courtroom safety protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
