Pastor Accused Of R3ping 16-Year-Old Church Member

Sydney Sithole, a 46-year-old pastor accused of raping a 16-year-old congregation member, was granted bail by the Sabie Magistrate Court in Mpumalanga, South Africa, on Thursday.

This comes after the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) successfully contested his release on bail for an alleged incident that occurred in his Sabie home in October 2024.

The accused, according to the court, failed to substantiate the extraordinary circumstances that allowed him to be released on bond.

It further determined that his release on bail could cause public commotion, interfere with witnesses, or possibly allow him to flee trial.

When delivering the verdict, the court noted that the accused took advantage of his victim since his congregation had entrusted him with the role of spiritual father.

The accused was detained last month on charges that the victim went to his house to be prayed for since she had a wound on her leg.

When she arrived at the accused’s home, he greeted her, kissed her, and pushed her into his bedroom before r3ping.

The incidence was discovered after the victim told her schoolmates, who also had the same experience, and the problem was reported to the police.

During his arrest, police discovered a pistol and ammo in his home. He is charged with rape, as well as possession of a pistol and ammunition.

“Going forward the NPA together with the police will work together to ensure that the outstanding investigation is getting finalised and transfer the matter to the trial court,” said Monica Nyuswa, NPA Regional Spokesperson in Mpumalanga.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
