Peter Obi Makes U-Turn; Endorses Julius Abure-Led Labour Party

In a stunning about-face, Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, has backed Julius Abure, the party’s national chairman, after paying a solidarity visit to the LP’s Abuja headquarters on Tuesday, May 21.

Due to the severe leadership crisis that the party was experiencing, Obi had previously avoided the contentious national conference, which was hosted in his home state.

Obi also gave his support to the party’s recently elected National Working Committee (NWC), which is headed by Abure, during the visit on Tuesday.

He asked party members who felt wronged to prioritise the survival of Nigerians and Nigeria over all other concerns.

He said; “For now, let us talk about how we are going to survive till then because we politicians always focus on the next election and not about human beings.

“For me, when they survive the next election, we can talk about the election. Let us focus on Nigeria and see that Nigeria works; if Nigeria is working, the Labour Party will work.”

Speaking further, Abure added that the presidential candidate and party members’ visit were well appreciated by the NWC of the party.

“I want to say this very clearly, the convention has come and gone; all those who are still angry with us over the Nnewi convention, we want to appeal to them to come together and work with us to build the party for a new Nigeria that has a vision.

“I believe very strongly that personal interests should be put aside in pursuit of a new Nigeria that will work for all,” Abure said.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
