Police Arrest 10 Over Assassination Attempt On Ondo Monarch

The Ondo State Police Command has apprehended 10 individuals in connection with a robbery and an assassination attempt on the traditional ruler of Igoba Community in Akure North Local Government Area of the state.

Reports indicate that the criminals allegedly stormed the community on Thursday, October 2, 2025, stealing possessions from residents at gunpoint and reportedly causing injuries to some victims.

Oba Adeniyi Adinlewa John, the traditional ruler of Igoba Community, known as the Obaloogun, narrowly escaped harm when the suspects allegedly stormed his palace.

The command’s spokesperson, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday, noting that police acted swiftly and detained the 10 suspected perpetrators.

“The Ondo State Police Command wishes to inform the public of the arrest of 10 suspects in connection with a violent attack on the Igoba Community at about 11:30 pm,” the statement read.

“On the said day, a group of hoodlums, armed with firearms, knives, charms, and other dangerous weapons, invaded Igoba Community with the intent to wreak havoc. In the course of their violent activities, one Mrs. Ogunoye Oluomo was viciously attacked, injured, and dispossessed of her belongings.

“The assailants further advanced to the palace of His Royal Highness, Oba Adinlewa John of Igoba, where they attempted to assassinate the monarch. Fortunately, the royal father narrowly escaped the life-threatening assault.

“Upon receipt of the distress call, the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, promptly directed all necessary operational assets and manpower to the area. Led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, the tactical team effected the arrest of 10 suspects.”

Ayanlade also noted that the suspects confessed to their respective roles in the attack and will face court proceedings once investigations are concluded.

According to the PPRO, items seized from the suspects include two locally made pistols, one single-barrel gun, multiple rounds of live ammunition, various charms, knives, machetes, and other dangerous weapons used in the assault.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
