Praise The Lord At All Times

Tobit 11:5-17
Mk 12:35-37

Praising and thanking God, especially for one’s family protection and for God’s healing, should be the top priority of all believers. In today’s first reading, God gave answer to the prayers of Tobit just as He answered the prayer of Sarah. The answer to his prayer is far better than what he wished for and we see how praised God as soon as his father’s sight is restored. This miracle happened because he follows the instructions of his traveling companion who happens to be the Archangel Raphael in disguise.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus questioned the understanding of the scribes on their beliefs. They affirmed that He is from the lineage of David. He asks them how the Christ could possibly be the son of David when David himself refers to Christ as His Lord. Again they fail to understand His teaching mainly because it would mean a conversion on their part and they did not wish to change their easy lifestyle. He also tries to get them to understand that the Messiah will not be a political savior. We must question ourselves from time to time to make sure that we are living according to God’s word and not to what we would like Him to be saying.

The example for us today is Tobias who carried out God’s will but was never slow to praise and thank Him for His favours. When last have you experienced the healing touch of God in your life? What has been your response to this experience? Are you able to sing praise to God while you live even in the midst of the struggles and pains? As God continues to touch our lives with healing, may we lift up our voices in praise and thanks to Him always Amen.
