President Tinubu Declares National Security Emergency

President Tinubu Declares National Security Emergency, Orders Massive Police/Army Recruitment and Total Overhaul

Key Measures Announced:

  • Authorises urgent additional recruitment into the Armed Forces and Police.
  • Nigerian Police Force to recruit an extra 20,000 officers (total planned increase to 50,000).
  • NYSC camps to be used as additional police training depots.
  • Officers currently on VIP protection duties to be redeployed after crash retraining to troubled areas.
  • DSS directed to immediately deploy all trained forest guards and recruit more to clear terrorists and bandits from forests nationwide.
  • Commends recent rescues (24 schoolgirls in Kebbi, 38 worshippers in Kwara) and vows continued efforts to free remaining hostages.
  • Pledges full federal support to state-level security outfits.
  • Calls on National Assembly to amend laws to allow willing states to establish state police.
  • Urges states to reconsider boarding schools in remote/insecure areas and religious centres to seek constant security protection.
  • Reiterates commitment to end farmer-herder clashes through the new Ministry of Livestock; calls on herders to embrace ranching, end open grazing, and surrender illegal arms.
  • Pays tribute to fallen soldiers (including Brigadier-General Musa Uba) and sympathises with victims’ families in recent attacks across several states.
  • Warns criminals that restraint will not be mistaken for weakness and vows decisive action.

The President called for national unity, vigilance, and cooperation with security agencies, emphasising that “we are in this fight together, and together we shall win.”
