The Music Business Is Rife With Imposters – Rema

Divine Ikubor, better known by her stage name Rema, is a rising singer-songwriter who has said that the Nigerian music scene is full with “fake people.”

Rema emphasized that it affects more than just creatives because the industry as a whole is phony, so when individuals declare their love for a certain artist, it’s not a sign of clout-chasing.

The 23-year-old claims that making a sincere statement of love is one of the best things someone in the industry can do to win someone over.

Rema said; “There are a lot of fake people in the [music] industry, the industry is fake. So when people come and say ‘Yo, I love this guy,’ nobody should come at them that they’re chasing clout. No, it’s real.

“When somebody comes out it’s because they’ve seen someone that’s real among everybody in the craazy industry mixed with both the fake and the real.

“And that’s what this song [‘Now I Know] is all about. Now I know who dey for me. All those I loved turned enemies. Now I know who dey for me. All those I trust turned enemies.”

Fake people are like costume jewelry. They look great for a while, then all of a sudden, their true selves ‘shine’ through. Stay away from them.
