The Reasons Behind Peter Obi’s Party Switch

Peter Obi has defended his history of switching political parties, claiming that he does so when a party starts to prioritize transactions and self-interest over principles.

Speaking on Arise TV on Monday, the former Labour Party presidential candidate discussed the reasons behind his frequent party switches.

Obi claimed that a disagreement with his successor as governor of Anambra was the reason behind his initial switch from APGA to the PDP.

He claimed that rather than let the conflict harm the state’s governance, he decided to leave.

“I moved from APGA to the PDP because of issues with my successor. Rather than allow it to become destructive to governance, I moved out,” he said.

“People were not playing by the rules. It was transactional. I cannot be part of a transactional system,” Obi said.

“What is important is not what people were yesterday, but what they are today.”

“We are ready to work with people who are committed to change. If the process is compromised again, we will continue the fight,”

“We must dismantle this criminality that exists today.”

“This particular journey of 2027, we in the South-East are working as a family and we are discussing with other regions. We are working to unite all opposition. The common goal is to create a new Nigeria,” he said.
