Tiger Woods Withdraws From 2023 Masters Tournament Due To Foot Injury

The 2023 Masters Tournament will no longer feature Tiger Woods.

The 47-year-old professional golfer decided to withdraw from the tournament after aggravating a right plantar fasciitis injury. He announced in a statement on Twitter on Sunday.

“I am disappointed to have to WD this morning due to reaggravating my plantar fasciitis,” Woods said. “Thank you to the fans and to @TheMasters who have shown me so much love and support. Good luck to the players today!”

In a statement of its own, the Masters Tournament tweeted: “Due to injury, @TigerWoods has officially withdrawn from the Masters’ Tournament after completing seven holes of his third round. #themasters.”

For the second time in the past year, Woods has pulled out of a major competition due to injury following his withdrawal from the Masters. The father of two canceled his participation in the PGA Championship at Southern Hills Golf Course in Tulsa, Oklahoma, back in May.

Woods told reporters earlier this week that he isn’t recovering as well as he once had, following a car accident that left him with a broken leg in February 2021. He took part in the Masters at Augusta National for the 25th time with his appearance this year.

According to ESPN, Woods also informed reporters that his right leg was still “sore” after the first round, describing it as “continuous” agony. He said, “Hopping on the left leg is good. “Not so nice if I did it on the other one,” I said.

Five-time Masters champion Woods earlier this week expressed uncertainty about whether this would be his last opportunity to compete at the highest level.

“I don’t know how many more I have in me,” he said, according to CNN. “So just to be able to appreciate the time that I have here and cherish the memories.”

In February, Woods most recently competed at the Genesis Invitational.
