Tinubu Confers Post-Humous CFR Honour On Late COAS Lagbaja

On Friday, President Bola Tinubu presented Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the late Chief of Army Staff, with the Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR) post-homous honor.

He made the statement at the National Cemetery in Mogadishu, Abuja, where the late warrior was being buried.

The President praised the late warrior’s efforts to national security and praised his values.

Lagbaja’s selection as COAS was one of Tinubu’s best decisions to date, he said.

“As an eternal symbol of our appreciation, I have granted the late Chief of Army Staff, the post-humous national honour of the Commander of the Federal Republic of the Niger (CFR),” Tinubu declared.

He then invited Mariya, the late COAS’s wife, who accepted the award on behalf of the Lagbaja family to the congregation’s cheers.

The President asked military officers not to allow “death defeat us. Lift your heads in pride in memory of your army chief.”

Tinubu also reiterated his administration’s commitment to support members of the armed forces who work hard to defend the nation.

He thanked the Lagbaja family for enabling the late COAS to serve with honor and promised that the warrior’s contributions will benefit future generations.

Vice President Kashima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Defense Minister, governors, and senior military officers were present at the event.

Tinubu revealed Lagbaja’s passing last week, stating that the late warrior had died in Lagos following a protracted illness.

Lagbaja, who was born on February 28, 1968, was the Chief of Army Staff for a period of one year and four months. In June 2023, President Tinubu named him to the position.

May his soul rest in perfect peace.
