Trump Pauses Student Visa Interview Amid Plans For Social Media Vetting

The United States has halted the issuance of new interview appointments for student visas at embassies worldwide, although previously scheduled interviews will proceed as planned.

The Trump administration is preparing to implement more stringent regulations on social media account reviews for international students.

The directive was issued via a diplomatic cable sent on Tuesday, May 27, by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

“Effective immediately, in preparation for an expansion of required social media screening and vetting, consular sections should not add any additional student or exchange visitor (F, M and J) visa appointment capacity until further guidance is issued,” Rubio wrote.

Per the cable, more comprehensive instructions will be provided in the near future.

This recent action aligns with the administration’s efforts to strengthen entry protocols for foreign students, citing national security risks and concerns about campus disturbances.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
