UN Chief ‘Strongly Condemns’ North Korea Missile Launches

North Korea’s missile launches are “seriously condemned” by the UN chief as Pyongyang makes threats to transform the Pacific Ocean into a “firing range.”

On Monday, North Korea launched two additional ballistic missiles off its east coast despite Antonio Guterres’ request that Pyongyang stop its “provocative measures.”

Kim Jong Un’s powerful sister issued a similar warning to US forces, saying the nuclear-armed state might transform the Pacific into a “firing range.”

UN Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said the UN Chief; ttggfv Guterres reaffirmed a request for Pyongyang “to immediately stop from adopting any additional provocative steps” in a statement released on Sunday.

The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, to use North Korea’s official name, launched yet another ballistic missile with an intercontinental range, which the Secretary-General strongly condemns.

South Korea announced fresh sanctions on four people and five businesses connected to Pyongyang’s nuclear programs in retaliation for its wayward neighbor.

The launches came only two days after North Korea launched an ICBM into the ocean off the west coast of Japan, leading the United States to perform separate air exercises with Japan and South Korea on Sunday.

State-run media in North Korea reported the country launched two projectiles from multiple rocket launchers with corresponding targets located 395 km (245 miles) and 337 km (209 miles) apart.

“The 600mm multiple rocket launcher mobilized in the firing… is a means of tactical nuclear weapon,” capable of “paralyzing” an enemy airfield, state news agency KCNA said.

According to the Japanese Defense Ministry, the two ballistic missiles were launched at around 2200 GMT and reached maximum altitudes of around 100 and 50 kilometers before falling outside of Japan’s Exclusive Economic Zone. There were no reports of any vessels or aircraft being damaged.

The ministry declared in a statement that it will keep gathering and researching data in close coordination with the US.

“North Korea’s series of actions, including its repeated ballistic missile launches, threaten the peace and security of Japan, the region, and the international community,” the ministry said.

“Japan lodged a strong protest and forcefully condemned North Korea.”
