US Will No Longer Allow Transgender Individuals To Join The Military

The US Army has stated that transgender people will no longer be allowed to enlist in the military, and that it would no longer facilitate gender change treatments for service members.

According to a statement released on X, the decision goes into force immediately, and all medical procedures connected to enabling or validating a gender transition for service members have been suspended.

In a series of posts shared on X, the US Army wrote, “The #USArmy will no longer allow transgender individuals to join the military and will stop performing or facilitating procedures associated with gender transition for servicemembers. Stay tuned for more details.”

It further stated, “Effective immediately, all new accessions for individuals with a history of gender dysphoria are paused, and all unscheduled, scheduled, or planned medical procedures associated with affirming or facilitating a gender transition for Service members are paused.”

“Individuals with gender dysphoria have volunteered to serve our country and will be treated with dignity and respect,” the statement added.

The US Army’s declaration follows US President Donald Trump’s revelation last month that he had signed four executive orders reshaping the military, including a ban on transgender service members participating in the US armed forces.

On January 27, Trump announced the signing of four executive orders that will restructure the military, including the prohibition on transgender service members participating in the US forces and the reinstatement with back pay of troops who were discharged for refusing to be vaccinated against COVID-19, CNN reported.

Donald Trump barred transgender Americans from serving in the military during his first term in office in 2017. However, outgoing US President Joe Biden issued an order repealing the restriction in 2021. On January 20, hours after being sworn in as the 47th President of the United States, Trump issued an executive order canceling the Biden administration’s 2021 decision to let transgender members to serve.
