We Are Consecrated In Jesus-the Truth, The Eternal Word

The Old Testament and the New Testament both contain numerous stories of people trying to lie in difficult situations, from the story of Adam and Eve in Paradise Lost to the first murder.

Throughout history, personal and community covenants have been based on the promise of truth and fidelity. God and Jesus have warned us about false gods, false witnesses, false prophets, and false leaders. The commandments also forbid false gods and false witness.

Today’s reading in Mass warns about “savage wolves” who will not spare the flock. Jesus prayed that we are consecrated in truth and God’s word. We are called to live a life of integrity and honesty. We are often tempted to be dishonest, whether to avoid punishment, blame others, or deceive someone.

Many people lie to save face, justify their actions, or because it has become a habit. However, Jesus and the Church have always emphasized that the truth will set us free.

Living with integrity and honesty is challenging and demands a lot from us. As followers of Jesus, we are called to live truthfully, even when it may cost us. Our lives should be built upon the truth, and we can trust that God will always be there for us.

Let us embrace Jesus’ prayer for us: “Consecrate them in the truth. Your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, so I sent them into the world. And I consecrate myself for them, so that they also may be consecrated in truth.” (Jn 17: 17 – 19) Fr Joseph Osho.
