Why Peter Nwachukwu Has Not Been Tried In Court – IGP

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, has revealed why the husband of late gospel singer, Osinachi Nwachukwu has not been taken to court in a meeting with the Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Kedem Tallen, OFR, at his office in the Louis Edet House, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

The Minister spoke about the plight of Nigerian women, especially in regard to gender and domestic violence. She brought up the case of Osinachi Nwachukwu, a well-known gospel artist whose sudden death on April 8, 2022, drew widespread condemnation. The Minister, who was joined by several members of the late singer’s family, was also curious about the measures made by the police to guarantee that justice was served quickly.

While responding, the Inspector-General of Police stated that her untimely death was heartbreaking, especially since the information from family sources and independent witnesses pointed to her husband, Peter Nwachukwu, as the perpetrator. He stated that the Nigeria Police Force’s FCT Command, in whose jurisdiction the incident occurred, arrested the deceased’s husband at their residence in Lugbe, Abuja, at around 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 10, 2022. Even though the investigation is still underway, the suspect is being detained at the FCT Police Command.

The IGP also stated that, due to the sensitive nature of the case and the urgent need for justice, the command has approached the National Hospital in Abuja to conduct post-mortem examinations on the deceased to determine the cause of death, and her husband will be charged to court if it is confirmed that he was responsible for her death.

The Inspector-General of Police reaffirmed the Force’s commitment, under his leadership, to ensure that incidents of domestic violence, sexual and gender-based violence, rape, and other social vices are given top priority, with the goal of prosecuting perpetrators in accordance with existing laws.

Today's Quote

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
